Hello Everyone -

There’s going to be a bit of a change this year for our Special Olympics & St. Baldrick’s event. We will still be having the basketball game, but will not have any head shaving (more about that below).

We are hoping that all clubs/teams can make it out on March 14th at 6:00 PM to help support the team as well as celebrate Kelly Urbanski in her last game before she retires in May. We will be hosting it in the East Gym. Doors will open around 5:30 PM. This is a much bigger venue, so we will need all of you to come out and help pack the stands! Since we are not doing St. Baldrick’s, all of the money raised will be going to our Special Olympics club on behalf of all the years Kelly has given to it.

As far as this event goes, we will continue to host the Special Olympics basketball game every year, but are moving away from St. Baldrick’s. Our goal is to partner with one local charity (animal shelters, food banks, park districts, Ronald McDonald House, etc). We will continue to raise money, but will also host a once a month volunteer event with the charity we are supporting. This will hopefully give the student’s more understanding of why they are raising the money (as well as getting them their community service hours). We’d obviously also open this up to clubs/teams that want to do this for a team building activity. We’re in the beginning stages of this, but keep an eye out for it. If you have any helpful hints, please make sure to reach out to Ryan Visser or Courtney Turner.

Hope to see everyone on March 14th at 6:00 PM!

Ryan Visser & Courtney Oxley-Turner
